Ireland's Higher Education System

Ireland's higher education system is governed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and uses the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) to align Irish qualifications with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

The system comprises publicly funded research universities, Technological Universities (TUs) focused on applied learning and industry partnerships, and private colleges offering degrees validated by Irish universities or QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland).

Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)

QQI is Ireland's state agency responsible for promoting quality and accountability in education and training in Ireland. It validates and awards qualifications for further education and training providers, and accredits courses at private institutions.

For international students, QQI-validated degrees from recognised private colleges are legitimate Irish qualifications.
